UNPARALLELED knowledge for your COMBUSTION TRAINING
Our comprehensive combustion training program is designed to provide your team with the knowledge and skills necessary to optimize your furnace operations. This training is divided into two in-depth sessions: a classroom session and a hands-on furnace training session. Anyone is trainable, don't worry if your company doesn't have a combustion team.
First Session: Classroom Training
Spend approximately six hours with our industry veterans, learning the fundamentals of combustion and furnace operations.
What You’ll Learn:
- Heat Transfer:
- Sankey Diagram
- Understanding where heat comes from and where it goes
- Minimizing heat losses and the importance of these reductions
- Combustion Basics:
- Inputs and definitions
- Standard Cubic Foot
- Specific heat
- Simplified and advanced combustion equations
- Understanding what happens in a flame
- NOx emissions and control
- Common misconceptions in combustion and how to avoid them
- Industrial Combustion:
- Proper control and optimization techniques
- Furnace and burner adjustments for optimal combustion
- Benefits of proper tuning and maintenance on furnace performance
- Control Systems Fundamentals:
- Basics of control systems for radiant tube furnaces
- Typical equipment used for combustion tuning
- Q&A:
- Interactive session to address specific questions and concerns

Second Session: Hands-On Furnace Training
After the classroom session, spend approximately two hours reinforcing concepts learned in class. This session can be tailored to meet your specific needs and may include:
What You’ll Learn:
- Engineering Review:
- Specific to customer furnaces ideal for Process Engineers
- Calculating proper burner fire rate for tubes
- Expected material flow
- Furnace efficiency evaluation
- Hands-On Furnace Training:
- Identification of control valves and combustion components
- Evaluation of control systems and determining control methodology
- Furnace walk to identify cross-link valves, air manifolds, motorized control valves, gas valves, shutoffs, pressure taps, gas manifolds
- Example Tuning:
- Measurement and recording of air pressure readings in each zone
- Balancing the fire rate between zones and burners
- Setting desired fire rate per burner between zones and burners
- Measuring and recording initial excess Oxygen percentage at the stack at each tube
- Tuning each tube to optimal excess O2 percentage at the stack
- Calculating savings through tuning
Deliverables
- Comprehensive review of furnace operations
- Knowledge of setting up and maintaining optimal furnace combustion
- Recognizing indications that the furnace is not running properly
- Recommendations for modifications for process improvement
